Global Development Learning Network, World Bank (GDLN)

What is the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN)?

  • GDLN uses modern technologies (computers, Internet, satellite communication, digital cameras, interactive video) to bring courses, seminars, workshops, discussions from worldwide sources of knowledge to participants around the world.
  • Distance learning is the basic method used within GDLN.
  • With GDLN, geographical distances will no longer be an obstacle in knowledge dissemination.
  • Participants in Ukraine are able to listen to presentations from other parts of the world and interact or participate as in traditional learning process.
  • GDLN comprises distance learning centers around the world
  • It is not designed to bring Western values and knowledge to the rest of the world!

What benefits does GDLN bring to governmental institution, public and educational organization in Ukraine?

To governmental organization

  • Quality education of Ukrainian public servants (to improve management capacity and efficiency of public administration)
  • Interactive sharing of reform experience of Eastern Europe and other countries (to help Ukraine in market and social transformation)
  • Consulting and educating Ukrainian decision makers by world leading specialists in management (to facilitate the reform of public administration)
  • Discussions, and negotiations with foreign counterparts - for example consultation between  Ukrainian and Polish immigration services on border issues etc.

To public/non-profit organizations

  • Share experience and coordinate activities with foreign counterpart organization on common issues (human rights protection, freedom of press, union movement etc.)
  • Maintain and strengthen role of NGOs in civil society

To education institutions

  • Ukrainian students have opportunities to register for courses taught by world leading scholars

To private organizations 

  • Workshops for employees to learn modern technologies (e-business skills for IT  specialists, western standards of accounting for financial specialists etc.)

How can organizations (public or private) access and use GDLN?

The National Academy of Public Administration, the President of Ukraine hosts the first GDLN center in Ukraine.

The Academy:

  • Maintain the schedule of using GDLN facility
  • Handle applications to use GDLN center and to register for distance courses
  • Analyze propositions as to modifications of the distance learning curriculum

Governmental, public, private, and educational organization from all regions of Ukraine are encouraged to use Internet, networking, personal contacts to search worldwide for course of their interest to be delivered through GDLN.

Propositions and feedback from users are crucial for fulfilling GDLN center's mission and bringing relevant and valuable content.
